Mission Statement
†
St. James welcomes all
those seeking a spiritual
home of worship,
to share in a
community
united in
Christ;
Promoting Truth,
Understanding,
Love, Social
Justice
and Acceptance of all.
St. James is a building of simple interior beauty and a lovely example of country Gothic architecture.
St. James belongs to the Episcopal Diocese of New York, under the leadership of Bishop Mark Sisk. We use the Book of Common Prayer for our weekly service, which includes readings from the Old and New Testaments, a selection of prayers of praise and thanksgiving, a sermon by the Priest, hymns, and the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.
Anyone who seeks a deeper relationship with God is welcome to take part in the service and to receive Communion at the altar. Baptisms are performed at the Sunday worship service. Music is supplied by a self playing Allen Organ.
Worship is the heart of the church. For over 100 years, the Episcopal parish of St. James church has demonstrated through our lives and worship, Christ's central teaching that "God is Love."
Equally important, we strive to be a welcoming community reaching out to our neighbors, and helping those in need. Church sponsored activities include:
Sunday School, Bible Study and Christian Education;
SJ Annual 'Scholarship Award' to a deserving Dover High School Senior;
Annual Fundraising Activities (Auction, Christmas Bazaar, etc.);
Dutchess County Immunization Clinic (monthly)
Yoga Classes (weekly) and
the Literacy Connections "English as a Second Language" Program and
other Community Outreach Activities
